What's an unconference?

"An unconference is a conference where the content of the sessions is driven and created by the participants, generally day-by-day during the course of the event, rather than by a single organizer, or small group of organizers, in advance." -Wikipedia

As an unconference, the sessions and focus will be driven by the needs, interest and skills of those who attend. There will be both planned and spontaneous opportunities to collaborate and learn from each other.

What will the focus be?

We've come up with 4 general categories to help focus the topics, and expect each of these to be fairly well represented:

  • Implementing: installation, configuration, integration, extending, users helping users, solving problems
  • Contributing: adopters interested in contributing to Matterhorn, development processes, tools, etc.
  • Project Planning: Quality assurance and release processes, roadmap, new features
  • Applying: Application of Matterhorn for teaching & learning, research

Within these categories, we expect to have lightning talks, roundtable discussions, hands on workshops, and presentations.

Expect the sessions list and the emerging agenda to depict attendees' contributions over the next couple of days - and feel free to propose sessions or submit a presentation yourself - in the spirit of an unconference.

Who should attend?

We're expecting almost all active committers and board members on the project to attend (see http://opencast.org/leadership for a list). We're hoping that many others will join us, including those who are working toward implementing Matterhorn on their campus, commercial vendors, those who want to take a more active role in the project development and community planning, and those who have great ideas for where Matterhorn could go next.
